Extreme Frenzy
So I got my email from the people over at ScriptFrenzy.org the other day — a little reminder that this year’s Frenzy is starting up on April 1. I highly suggest the two of you reading participate. You can pretend you’re a big shot with a deadline for a month, maybe even going as far as hiring a writer’s assistant to throw hot coffee at when you’re losing your mind on April 29. Let me explain:
Well hello…
My name, you ask? Brendan McCarthy. I’ve finally deemed myself important enough for a blog, so, you’re welcome.
If you decide to stick around (I have candy if you do) you might find this blog to be one of the following:
1) Entertaining. As much as I’d like to write “films” — and I am saying that with my nose in the air, thank you — really I’d like to provide a nice escape for people with my work. Think of me as your dealer, and my words are…heroin.
I kid. I just mean that I’m nothing special (as of today, at least), so I can’t really take this whole blogosphere seriously. It may not translate well in text, but I’m sarcastic pretty much all the time. Don’t take everything I say to heart.
2) A place of community. If you’re my age you’ve probably not earned the official title of Screenwriter just yet. Me neither. Let’s hang here and think up a master plan to get that title AND TAKE OVER THE WORLD.
But seriously let’s hang.
3) Helpful. No one person can know everything about the art/craft/business of writing for film/TV. I know some fun facts you don’t, and vice versa. So while I’m not claiming to be any type of authority, I will share tips and tricks whenever I learn them. For you, my screenwriting friends. For you.
My plan (for now) is to track the “Evolution of a Screenplay” here on the blog. I’m in a Feature Workshop at Emerson College and we’re writing our very own features from treatment to final draft. I’m putting all of it up here, scars and all. I figure at best some people might actually be interested in my writing/writing habits, at worst it’s a good way for me to stay on track with the script.
Which brings me to the most selfish reason for creating this here blog: keeping my own writing habit alive. It’s easy when you’re a student to let your own writing fall behind. And it’s necessary, if you want to succeed, to have a writing routine. I figure whenever I’m bored writing about my characters, I can always come here and write about ME! just to keep my fingers typing.
It’s gonna be great guys. Seriously. You don’t want to miss this.
